Boiler Replacement
When Should You Replace Your Boiler?
Boilers can last a long time with proper maintenance, but sometimes replacement is the best solution. Here are key reasons to consider a new boiler:
- Failed Heat Exchanger – If your boiler is out of warranty, the cost of replacing a heat exchanger can exceed the cost of a new boiler.
- System Modifications – If you're adding radiators or expanding your heating area, your current boiler may not be sufficient.
- Space Efficiency – Replacing an old boiler with a wall-hung combi boiler can free up valuable space, especially in urban areas.
- Upgrading to a More Efficient System – A cast iron boiler used for radiator heating can be replaced with a modulating condensing boiler for better efficiency and comfort.
- Easier Installation & Relocation – Some properties may require a more compact or wall-mounted boiler as the only viable option.
- Radiant Floor Heating Compatibility – If a cast iron boiler is used for radiant floor heating, it should be replaced with a condensing modulating boiler, which is designed for this application.
How Long Does Boiler Replacement Take?
Replacing a boiler typically takes one to two days, depending on the type of boiler and the modifications needed. This may include piping upgrades, venting modifications, system flushing, and installing special filters. When replacing a boiler, it's also a good time to upgrade the pump, expansion tank, and feed system to improve overall performance.
Once installed, the system is filled with water, air is bled out, heating is activated, and a full performance test is conducted to ensure customer satisfaction.
